Introduction
Researchers from Central African Republic publish articles in international Open Access journals, for example 10 articles have been published with BioMed Central – an STM (Science, Technology and Medicine) publisher which has pioneered the Open Access publishing model – by researchers from Faculty of Sciences University of Bangui, Foyer de Charité, Hôpital Communautaire de Bangui, Institut Pasteur de Bangui and World Health Organization.
Four articles have been published in Public Library of Science (PLoS) international Open Access journals: PLoS ONE, PLoS Biology and PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases by researchers from Institut Pasteur de Bangui, World Wildlife Fund–Dzanga-Sangha, Bangui, Bangassou Forest Project, Canadian Center for International Studies and Cooperation, Bangui, Centre National de Référence pour les Maladies Sexuellement Transmissibles and Diocèse de Bouar.
As indicated by OA policy registries such as ROARMAP, there exists a need for the establishment and implementation of OA policies at the national and institutional levels.
